Ashtanga Yoga- An Introduction to the Second Series

The second series of Ashtanga Yoga is called Nadi Shodhana. The Nadis are the subtle body’s electrical wiring. This series both strengthens and detoxifies the nervous system through a sequence of backbending postures and hip openers. This class will be an introduction to the second series and will include both Suryanamaskar A&B and the traditional second series standing pose sequence. From there we will explore the beginning of the second series including all of the backbends with some non traditional poses to help open the spine to prepare for the deeper backbends. We will finish with the traditional Ashtanga Yoga finishing poses. The pace will be brisk. The traditional emphasis on breath, bandha, and drishti will be part of the practice as well. Students who have completed the primary series are welcome as well as curious students who are strong and have no major injuries.
