Yoga is a practice that I have always loved, a study that has always come easy to me, and a way of life that has always been effortless.
I'm always amazed when people refer to me as going "to work" when I am leaving to teach Yoga. Teaching Yoga is not "work" to me. It's just what I do. And it's what I love doing. It's part of why I'm here.
My first Yoga teacher was Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, in Poona India, when I was only 3 years old. My mom had taken my brother and I there to study with Bhagwan, who was her teacher. Today he is more commonly known as Osho. We lived in Poona for 3 months in and out of the ashram. After India we returned to our home in Japan, and then eventually coming back to the United States. But I truly believe, that to this day, I took a piece of India with me as a very young child, and I held it close it my heart. "It's deep within my roots, and the seeds were sown…" is what I like to say, and since then, I've been on a yoga mat for over 25 years.
I have studied and practiced many different styles of Yoga extensively. Jivamukti and Yin Yoga primarily. After years of becoming physically and mentally stronger, I became more drawn to Self Study, as well as becoming more curious about the Ego, and the study of The Mind.
Today I choose to focus more on the meditative mindful practices of Yoga, of turning inward, and quieting down. In my own personal practice, I'm more inspired by Yin Yoga, and the longer holds of seated asana, as well as mindfully moving through the more physically demanding and strength building standing asana. As well as daily meditation. The quieter side of my practice, I refer to as a "Different Form of Strength." Cultivating balance, with steadiness and ease.
